No Adjustments to Fall Awards After 9/05/23

Late start classes that were registered after 9/05/23 for Fall 2023, will not be included in a continuously enrolled student's* total enrollment for financial aid purposes. Therefore, if you make changes to your course load after this date, you will not see an increase/decrease to your total financial aid for the term. Please note that new students* who have just registered for a late start course (who were not attending any courses at the start of the term) can still be awarded Pell, the Promise Grant (BOG) Fee Waiver and potentially more if they enroll now. However, we do encourage that you visit our Virtual Lobby should you feel that changes to your course load were a result of an extenuating circumstance.

How will adjusting my course load after the freeze date affect my financial aid?

Pell Grants for Fall, Spring & Summer

Pell Grant eligible students can receive up to 150% of their scheduled Pell award each year. What does this mean for you? If you were a Pell eligible student in fall 2022 and/or spring 2023, you may qualify for a Pell Grant for summer 2023!

Minimum Credits for Summer Pell Grant

If you enrolled full-time (12+ credits) and received the full-time Pell Grant amount for fall and spring, you must enroll at least half-time (6+ credits) in summer classes to receive a summer Pell Grant.

If you enrolled part-time fall or spring, there is no minimum credit requirement to receive a summer Pell Grant (unless required by your EFC). You can use the remainder of your annual Pell Grant amount during summer with no minimum credit requirement.

Pell Grant Amount Depends on Enrollment

Your summer Pell Grant amount will depend on the number of credits you are registered in, as well as your Pell Lifetime Eligibility Units (LEU). The Pell Grant amount will be adjusted just prior to the release (disbursement) of your aid based on your enrollment level. Enrollment levels are defined in the following manner:

  • 12+ credits = 100% of the semester Pell Grant amount
  • 9-11 credits = 75% of the semester Pell Grant amount
  • 6-8 credits = 50% of the semester Pell Grant amount

Golden State Education And Training Grant Program

SPECIAL ALERT: Update from the California Student Aid Commission

This Special Alert from the California Student Aid Commission (Commission) provides an update on the new Golden State Education and Training Grant Program (GSETGP) that was established in the 2021-22 state budget. This new program offers one-time grants to eligible California resident workers who lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are enrolling in public education or training programs to learn new skills and get back into the workforce.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused millions of Californians to lose their jobs and many have been unable to find living wage employment since. The Governor and the Legislature opted to use $472.5 million in one-time American Rescue Plan Act funds and $27.5 million in one-time General Fund to provide grants to help these individuals reskill or upskill and transition back into the workforce.

Student Eligibility

To be eligible for a GSETGP grant, the applicant must meet the income and asset criteria of the Cal Grant A award (pursuant to subdivision (k) of Section 69432.7) and must have been:

  • Displaced from employment due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Unable to obtain employment that provides an average monthly wage that is equal to or greater than the average monthly wage received from their employment prior to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Not enrolled in a training program, college, or university at the time they were displaced from employment
