What can I do with this?

The Commercial Truck Driving Certificate of Competency (Noncredit)

This certificate is designed to develop skills and knowledge to complete the California Class A Commercial Driver’s License exam.

  • The course focus is on key elements of basic operations, road conditions, federal regulations, logbook compliance, and handling cargo. 
  • Prepares students looking to enter the workforce, increase their employability, and improve or advance their careers.

What will I learn?

  • Identify potential road hazards and explain how to mitigate these hazards in daylight and low-light conditions.
  • Diagnose malfunctions in the following systems: engine, engine exhaust auxiliary system, brakes, drive train, coupling system, and suspension.
  • Complete the procedure for documenting and securing cargo in accordance with state and federal regulations.

What courses do I take?

Note: Some courses within the major have a required prerequisite. If you feel you have equivalent knowledge and skills to those included in the prerequisite course through professional experience, licensure, or certification, you have the opportunity to submit a Prerequisite Challenge to be reviewed by the Department Chair. For the Prerequisite Challenge to be considered, you must submit documentation and verification to substantiate the basis for the challenge.
