A reduced-distraction testing environment
-
Use of approved assistive technology or other testing aids
- An alternate testing format or mode
-
Use of headphones or earbuds with approved music or ambient sound
-
Scheduled or additional breaks, including restroom breaks or access to water, as specified in the student's DSPS-approved accommodations
Students seeking accommodations should meet with a DSPS counselor each semester to discuss and arrange accommodations for their courses, including testing accommodations. Learn more about DSPS/Access Programs.
Students who require proctoring services may arrange them following these steps:
Step 1: Approval and Scheduling
- Prior to scheduling proctoring services, students must gain approval from the professor of the course for which the proctoring is required.
- Students may schedule their appointment through the Learning Assistance Center (LAC). This can be done in person at the LAC (2nd floor of the LRC, IWV/Ridgecrest), by calling 760-374-6165, or by emailing LAC@cerrocoso.edu
Step 2: Once the appointment has been scheduled, the LAC will contact the instructor to notify them of the exam date and time and to request the following:
- The exam
- If paper-based, the instructor will provide the exam by email.
- If web-based (Canvas or other course software) the instructor will provide a password or alternative directions to access the exam.
- Directions for the exam proctor, including access codes, allowance of a calculator or scratch paper, etc.
- Accommodations letter, if applicable (This is provided by the ACCESS Counselor)
- Should the student require their time in the learning center to be tracked (the timeframe the student was in the learning center), please make this clear in the directions for the proctor.
Please copy LAC@cerrocoso.edu in your email containing the information above.
Step 3: Once the student completes the test, the LAC will hold onto the exam until either 1) it is collected by the faculty member or 2) arrangements have been made to have it delivered or scanned/emailed to the professor.
Please connect with Tyson Huffman (Tyson.huffman@cerrocoso.edu) or Renee Soto (renee.soto@cerrocoso.edu) with your questions related to proctoring.
