Developing a Family Childcare Program Certificate

What can I do with this?
The Developing a Family Childcare Program Certificate of Competency (Noncredit)
This certificate is designed to assist students in applying for licensing for a family childcare program.
- The courses focus on legal requirements, environmental factors, developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum and planning, and collaborating with families
What will I learn?
- Identify the state and local requirements for setting up the physical environment for a family childcare program.
- Identify ways to adjust a family home to physically support teaching and caring for small, multi-age groups of children in a family setting.
- Apply theoretical frameworks to interpret behavior and interactions of children within a family childcare program.
- Develop strategies, from the family childcare perspective, related to socialization and the interrelationships between family, school, and community.
What courses do I take?
Note: Some courses within the major have a required prerequisite. If you feel you have equivalent knowledge and skills to those included in the prerequisite course through professional experience, licensure, or certification, you have the opportunity to submit a Prerequisite Challenge to be reviewed by the Department Chair. For the Prerequisite Challenge to be considered, you must submit documentation and verification to substantiate the basis for the challenge. Please see a counselor for more information about the Prerequisite Challenge process.
