Cerro Coso is Reaching for the Stars
Our event is a beloved community favorite for a good reason.
Not only is the Star Party educational in itself, it also supports education at the same time. Star Party proceeds go to the Cerro Coso Foundation which was founded in 1977 and operates as an auxiliary arm of the college. Funds raised at events go toward student scholarships and to support other CCCC activities.
Ticket prices are the same as last year: $25 for those 18 and over and $15 for those 9 to 17. Kids 8 and younger are free but must have a ticket.
The event aligns with Cerro Coso’s mission to inspire creativity in the arts and sciences, aiming to spark curiosity in astronomy and the natural world among both children and adults.
CLAS members will provide telescopes and share their knowledge to help attendees explore the night sky, both at the event site and from the Dr. Alex Shlanta Astronomical Observatory.
In addition to celestial viewing, the Star Party will feature a full evening of family-friendly fun. Guests can enjoy a dinner prepared by Cerro Coso staff along with music and games for kids of all ages.
The night will include: barbecued tri-tip or chicken, plus sides; children’s activities, outdoor games and music; and star gazing at the observatory once it is dark. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
The CLAS dates back to the early 1960s. In the years since, they have put on regular Star Parties that take advantage of the Ridgecrest area’s magical dark skies. For more information, visit the CLAS website.
