Cerro Coso Community College's noncredit programs offer accessible, tuition-free opportunities for career advancement and personal growth. From forklift and truck driving certifications to ESL, childcare, and computer literacy, these short-term, skill-focused classes serve as powerful entry points for individuals exploring new career paths, upskilling for better jobs, or enriching their lives through learning.
The students are diverse: working adults seeking better wages or career pivots, recent high school grads unsure of next steps, and community members pursuing lifelong learning. The unifying factor is aspiration and the need for flexible, low-cost, confidence-building opportunities.

Commercial Truck Driving
Commercial Truck Driving Certificate of Completion (218 hours) is designed to develop skills and knowledge to complete the California Class A Commercial Driver’s License exam for students looking to enter the workforce, increase their employability, and improve or advance their careers. It is comprised of two noncredit courses: CTD C801 and CTD C802, which focus on key elements of basic operations, road conditions, federal regulations, logbook compliance, and handling cargo. Students must complete and pass both courses to earn the Certificate of Completion.
Successful program completion requires the following courses:
- Commercial Truck Driving: Theory and Permit Preparation | CTD C801
- Commercial Truck Driving: Behind-the-Wheel | CTD C802
In addition, optional Endorsements can be taken when offered, which include the following courses:

Computer Basics
The Computer Basics Certificate of Completion (72 hours) is designed to provide individuals with basic skills in the use and operation of a computer as well as keyboarding skills. Students may complete this certificate for basic education to transition into a credit program, professional growth, or to enter the workforce.

Developing a Family Childcare Program
Developing a Family Childcare Program Certificate of Competency (108 hours) is designed to assist students in applying for licensing for a family childcare program. It is comprised of 6 courses which focus on legal requirements, environmental factors, developmentally appropriate practices, curriculum and planning, and collaborating with families. Students must complete all courses to earn the certificate of competency.
Successful program completion requires the following courses:

English as a Second Language for the Workforce
English as a Second Language for the Workforce Certificate of Competency (108 hours) is designed to develop skills for ENSL students looking to enter the workforce, increase their employability, and improve or advance their careers. It is comprised of two noncredit courses, ENSL C801 and C802, which focus on key elements of communication: reading, writing, listening, and speaking in the workforce. Students must complete and pass both courses to earn the certificate of competency.

Office Skills: PowerPoint and Outlook
The PowerPoint and Outlook Office Skills Certificate of Completion (72 hours) is designed to provide students with skills in basic features and operations of Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook. There are no prerequisite skills other than basic computer operation.

Office Skills: Word and Excel
The Word and Excel Office Skills Certificate of Completion (72 hours) is designed to provide students with skills in basic features and operations of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. There are no prerequisite skills other than basic computer operation.

Forklift Certification
This course (9 hours) is designed to give the student both practical experience and classroom interaction when it comes to the fundamentals of forklift operations. Curriculum follows OSHA guideline 1910-178 forklift, forklift safety, and forklift training, and results in OSHA certification.

Dermatology Assistant
This noncredit course (54 hours) is an advanced certificate course for the clinical medical assistant. Students must have practical clinical medical assisting coursework completed or experience to be eligible for enrollment. This advanced course is designed to provide education and training specific to dermatology and aesthetics. Topics include common skin disorders, laser and other light treatments, basal cell carcinomas, minor surgical procedures, chemical peels, and cosmeceuticals.

Introduction to Public Health
This course (54 hours) provides an overview of the field of public health, including core public health concepts and evidence-based approaches to understanding the role of public health in society, and the importance of prevention in promoting and protecting community health. Students learn about the interdisciplinary nature of the field of public health through an introduction to the basic principles and functions of social and behavioral health, environmental health, health policy, epidemiology, and biostatistics.
