Painter Brad Spence ‘Catch a Falling Knife’ Exhibition opening Friday March 13 at Cerro Coso

In case you don’t know, they have all served as inspirations for previous exhibitions by contemporary artist and painter Brad Spence, whose latest “Catch a Falling Knife” opens Friday, March 13 at Cerro Coso Community College’s Art Gallery.
A popular contemporary artist, Spence has been featured and reviewed in a slew of publications, including Artforum, Artweek, ArtUS, Art Issues, Art Journal, Artscene, Art Papers, Flash Art, Juxtapoz, X-Tra, Artillery and New Art Examiner.
Although known for large-scale acrylic works, Spence has been praised for his mastery of multiple artistic media.
Artforum, for example, described his work in painting, photographic and digital media as having “consistently laudable results” in a review by Jan Tumlir.
An adjunct instructor at Cerro Coso, Spence is also a professor of painting at Cal State San Bernardino. In addition to being a working artist, he has also worked as a curator and occasional critic.
He has taught at numerous schools in Southern California including CalArts, USC, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Chapman University and Art Center. He curated the widely recognized retrospective of the 70s performance artist Bas Jan Ader—the first such exhibition of this work in the United States.
