More Students Choose Cerro Coso as Spring Semester Begins

While winter is still in full swing, spring has already arrived at Cerro Coso Community College. The Spring semester began on January 17 with increased enrollment—an encouraging sign not only for the college, but also for the communities it serves.
Compared to last year, Cerro Coso has seen a 5% growth across key enrollment measures, as more students choose to start or continue their higher education journey close to home.
This growth represents expanded access to education and new opportunities for residents seeking career advancement, workforce training, or transfer pathways.
Cerro Coso is not the only community college experiencing rising enrollment.
According to recent national data reported by CNBC, enrollment patterns in U.S. higher education are shifting, with two-year and certificate programs growing at a faster rate than traditional four-year degrees. Enrollments in undergraduate certificate and associate degree programs increased by around 2% in fall 2025, compared with less than 1% growth in bachelor’s degree programs.
At Cerro Coso, we’re proud to be part of this broader trend, as more students seek flexible, workforce-aligned options that support both academic and professional goals in areas such as allied health, industrial technology, child development, business, information technology, and public services.
Focused on access and flexibility, Cerro Coso offers multiple opportunities for students to start their education throughout the year. Late start Spring classes begin in February, March, and April, with enrollment opening in February. Community members interested in enrolling are encouraged to visit the class schedule page for more information.
