‘The Art of BEEing’ by Krystle Hickman: Exhibit Combines Photography, Science and Storytelling at Cerro Coso on September 25

Cerro Coso Community College will welcome acclaimed conservation photographer, author and National Geographic Explorer Krystle Hickman for an evening exploring the extraordinary world of California’s native bees through photography, science and storytelling.

The event is presented by the Arts and Science Departments and sponsored by the Cerro Coso Community College Foundation. It will take place on Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. in the LRC Art Gallery at Cerro Coso. 

Hickman will share captivating photographs and stories from her fieldwork documenting native bees and biodiversity, revealing the remarkable behaviors and beauty of these often-overlooked pollinators.

Hickman’s award-winning work blends scientific discovery with an artistic eye. She is the author of “The ABCs of California’s Native Bees,” recognized by the Los Angeles Times as one of the best science books of 2025. Her photographs have helped bring rare and little-known bee species into focus, inspiring greater appreciation for the natural world and the ecosystems these essential pollinators support.

Following the presentation, guests are invited to explore Hickman’s photographic exhibition up close while enjoying wine (for adults), hors d’oeuvres and refreshments provided courtesy the Cerro Coso Foundation.
