Cerro Coso Faculty Member to Perform at Carnegie Hall

Mills, who has been with Cerro Coso since fall 2017, will travel to New York City as a member of the Eastern Sierra Community Chorus. The ensemble will join more than 300 singers from around the globe as part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) program.
The performance, titled The Music of Eric Whitacre, will take place on Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m. and will be conducted by the internationally acclaimed composer Eric Whitacre himself.
The Eastern Sierra Community Chorus earned its invitation after being discovered by a DCINY representative who saw a previous performance online. Following the submission of an audition recording, the group was selected to perform alongside multiple choirs in this prestigious international event. The chorus will be featured in Act 1 of the concert.
The program will highlight the work of Whitacre, one of the most celebrated contemporary choral composers, alongside additional classical and modern pieces. Among the featured works is Whitacre’s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, based on the poem by Robert Frost. The finale will combine all performers in an immersive experience, with some singers placed throughout the audience.
Mills will perform as part of the alto section, contributing to a powerful and collaborative choral performance.
“Performing at Carnegie Hall is one of those pie-in-the-sky, bucket list dreams that I never thought could actually become a reality,” said Mills. “I am so excited to perform in such an incredible, historically significant venue. And to be able to do it under the direction of Eric Whitacre … will truly make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
She added that she looks forward to learning from Whitacre and fellow performers, and to bringing that experience back to her students and community.
Mills’ participation in this global performance opportunity reflects the talent, dedication, and passion of Cerro Coso faculty, both inside and outside the classroom.
