Alumni Spotlight: A Visit from Former International Student and Artist Morgan Guiraud

Morgan Guiraud

Cerro Coso recently welcomed back former international student Morgan Guiraud, whose return to campus offered a meaningful reminder of the lasting influence faculty mentorship can have on students. Morgan attended Cerro Coso in 2000, and while his time here was brief, it proved to be transformative, particularly through the encouragement of former art instructor Mr. Benson.

During his studies at Cerro Coso, Morgan had not yet seriously pursued art. That changed when Mr. Benson recognized Morgan’s potential and told him he had a gift. That moment of encouragement Morgan shared, gave him the confidence to explore art more deeply and ultimately set him on an entirely new path. Morgan has often reflected on Mr. Benson’s belief in him as a turning point—one that launched his commitment to developing his artistic voice.

Today, Morgan is a working artist living in France, where his creative practice blends painting, drawing, collage, spray paint, printing, and digital techniques. Influenced by street art, cartoons, surrealism, and pop art, Morgan works in a distinctive neo-pop style. He begins with an original painting and then creates seven hand-enhanced variations, each one unique—an approach that reflects both technical skill and creative experimentation.

While visiting campus, Morgan met with Tanner McGuire, Professor of Art, toured the art department, and explored other areas of the college. He noted the many changes and improvements since his time at Cerro Coso, while expressing gratitude for the foundation and encouragement he received here.

We love hearing from our alumni—and visits like Morgan’s, paired with the opportunity to hear his story in his own words, remind us of the powerful role Cerro Coso faculty play in helping students discover their potential and pursue new possibilities, wherever their journey may lead.
