Reaching for the Stars Without Breaking the Bank: Cerro Coso’s Star Party & BBQ Returns Sept. 19

The evening is free for those 8 and under, so families can reach for the stars without breaking the bank. Tickets are $25 for those 18 and over and $15 for those 9 to 17 (children 8 and under require a free ticket for admission).
Dinner is included with the ticket, meaning that kids 8 and under eat for free.
The annual event will be presented with the help of the China Lake Astronomical Society (CLAS), with astronomical society members on hand to provide telescopes and education to stargazers of all ages.
Aspiring astronomers will be able to view the stars from the Dr. Alex Shlanta Astronomical Observatory, and there will also be telescopes set up at the party location.
In keeping with Cerro Coso’s mission to engender creativity in both the arts and sciences, the Star Party is intended to provide the spark, encouraging kids (and adults) to take an interest in astronomy and the natural sciences.
CLAS is a long-time supporter of the event, leading and hosting the stargazing and sharing their extensive knowledge with attendees over the years.
The Star Party will take place on Friday, September 19, from 6 to 10 p.m.
As in the past, this year’s party will feature dinner, music, and games in addition to stargazing.
Dinner will include barbecued tri-tip, chicken, and sides prepared by Cerro Coso staff.
Wine and beer will be available for purchase.
There will also be games and activities for kids of all ages.

Star Party proceeds go to the Cerro Coso Foundation, founded in 1977, and operates as an auxiliary arm of the college. Funds raised at events go toward student scholarships and to support other CCCC activities.
