With musical selections ranging from E.T. to Alice in Wonderland, the audience was treated to a whirlwind of whimsy at the Cerro Coso Community College Band’s Spring Concert on May 1.

Longtime Director Debbie Veit led the band through an Out of This World medley with tunes from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, and other works.

In a special moment- and just in time for May the Fourth – CCCC student Lezly Albro performed a flute solo during the Star Wars part of the first medley.

Veit later handed the baton to guest conductor Simon Austin for a medley from Wicked.

The performance ended on a bittersweet note as Veit took her final bow before retiring as band director.

“I’m definitely going to miss this bunch,” she said after the performance.

The Cerro Coso Concert Band is a class open to all experience levels and backgrounds. Offered as either a for-credit course or a non-credit class, this inclusive program welcomes musicians of all ages.
Most members are adult musicians who already hold college degrees and play simply for the love of it. But the class has also included Cerro Coso students, Burroughs High School students, and even advanced junior high GATE students.

Anyone interested in joining the group is asked to contact our main campus at (760) 384-6100 to learn how to get involved when fall enrollment opens.
