Gina Herrera has no fear of ‘Confronting Conflict’ — Exhibit opens Nov. 14 at Cerro Coso Community College

Herrera believes her role as an artist includes “addressing pressing issues of our time,” according to her artist’s statement. Her diverse background includes Native American heritage, military experience and a passion for environmental justice – all of which converge in Herrera’s work.
Herrera combines metal and found materials into mixed-media sculptures that have racked up attention and acclaim for both artist and art.
Canvas Rebel magazine calls her “brilliant and insightful.”
Bakersfield.com calls her a “community champion.”
“Kinetic energy fills every line of her metal work, as if the sculptures were captured and briefly frozen in mid-motion,” raves Diversions LA.
Her work has even been featured on the show “Bel-Air” on the Peacock network.
Herrera has a BFA in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Studio Arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
She has exhibited extensively throughout California and nationally and has received recognition for her work through various grants, as well as being published in various media including Peacock TV and Hulu.
Herrera’s latest exhibition “Confronting Conflict” opens Friday Nov. 14 in Cerro Coso’s Art Gallery in the beautiful Learning Resource Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Herrera’s artist talk begins at 6:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided by the Cerro Coso Community College Foundation.
The exhibition runs from Nov. 14 through Dec. 12.
