Cerro Coso Rocks Returns August 21 to Kick Off the Fall Semester with Fun, Food, and Resources!

Mark your calendars! Cerro Coso Rocks, the official start-of-semester celebration, is back and ready to welcome students, families, and community members to the Ridgecrest campus on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM in the courtyard between the Main Building and the West Wing.
This high-energy, student-centered event is your one-stop welcome experience designed to ease the transition into college life and make students feel like part of the pack. With more than 200 attendees last year, Cerro Coso Rocks continues to grow as one of the college’s most beloved traditions.
Attendees can expect:
- Live DJ and music
- Tacos (with updated student ID)
- Ice cream social with the President
- Games, prizes, and a photo booth
- Academic and counseling support
- Campus tours and orientation
- Giveaways
- Student ID cards on site
- Community resource connections
- Meet-and-greets with faculty
“This event is all about helping students feel connected, supported, and excited for the year ahead,” said Franki Gregor, Director of Outreach Services. “We want every student—whether they’re brand new or returning—to know that they belong here. Cerro Coso Rocks is our way of saying “Welcome home.”
There is no cost for the event, and it is open to the public. Parking fees will be covered by Cerro Coso Outreach Services for the duration of the event.
