Cerro Coso Bishop Celebrates Nursing Graduates in a Meaningful and Moving Pinning Ceremony

Cerro Coso Community College proudly celebrated the accomplishments of its graduating nursing students during a heartfelt and inspiring pinning ceremony held December 11, 2025, at the Cerro Coso Bishop campus. The event marked the culmination of years of rigorous academic study, clinical training, and personal dedication, honoring graduates as they embark on their careers in the healthcare profession.
This year’s ceremony was especially meaningful. Faculty members shared personal stories and reflections, speaking to the hard work, compassion, and determination shown by the graduating class. Their remarks highlighted not only the academic journey but also the supportive relationships and personal growth that shaped the graduates' experience in the program. The reflections offered a powerful reminder of the impact nurses make on their communities and the strength required to enter the field. The Bishop ceremony reflects the program’s expansion in the early 2000’s to improve access to nursing education in the Eastern Sierra region.
In recognition of the program’s broader impact, Director of Vocational Nursing and Chair of Allied Health Department Matthew Wanta shared, “The Vocational Nursing program plays a critical role in strengthening our rural healthcare workforce. These graduates represent dedication, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving their communities. For many students, this program is not just a career pathway, but a life-changing opportunity to give back where they are most needed.”
One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony came during the traditional pinning. In a touching tribute to the support systems that carried them through their studies, many graduates chose to be pinned by their children, spouses, parents, or other loved ones. The room was filled with a deep sense of pride and gratitude as each student acknowledged the people who encouraged them, sacrificed with them, and walked alongside them on their journey. This shared celebration underscored the profound community of care behind every new nurse.
Cerro Coso’s Vocational Nursing (LVN) program continues to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and compassion needed to meet the growing demands of the healthcare field. The program is a full-time, 18-month program completed over three semesters. The rigorous curriculum integrates classroom instruction, skills lab training, and extensive clinical experience to prepare graduates for entry-level nursing practice and eligibility for the NCLEX-PN.
The next LVN cohort is scheduled to begin Fall 2026, with applications expected to be released in mid-February 2026. Prospective students are encouraged to meet with their academic counselor to ensure all prerequisite coursework is completed and to receive notification when the application becomes available.
Cerro Coso Community College congratulates the latest cohort of nursing graduates and looks forward to the contributions they will make as they step into their professional roles, continuing the college’s tradition of excellence in nursing education and community service.
