High School Students Can Take College Classes

High School students can take college classes

Cerro Coso Community College has dual enrollment programs throughout the region, and one of their finest is at Burroughs High School. The College offers Health Careers as a dual enrollment course, which is articulated for two classes at Cerro Coso Community College with a grade of “B” or better. If a high school student is interested in a career in medicine, this is a great way to get started and receive college credit!

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assisting is one of the nation’s fastest growing careers with an expected growth of 34% between 2012 and 2018. Students in Cerro Coso’s Medical Assisting program have the opportunity to develop the necessary clinical skills needed to be an effective medial assistant and prepares them for the State Exam for Medical Assistants (CCBMA).

Students can get a taste of what college is like without being completely overwhelmed with a whole new environment, and the dual enrollment program allows them to accumulate credits prior to entering college so they will be able to graduate from college early or on time.

Dual enrollment can be very beneficial for high school students. Interested candidates should contact their high school counselors to find out if they are eligible and to find out how to apply for the program.
