Textbook Reserves

The Cerro Coso Library’s Reserve Collection includes a variety of course textbooks and other supplemental course materials. You may wish to visit the Reserves if, for example, your textbook has not arrived in the time for the first day of class, if you need to read a chapter and have forgotten your book at home, or if your instructor has assigned supplemental reading. To ensure that these materials are available to all students, Reserves can only be used in the library and cannot be taken home. Faculty and tutors may check out reserve materials briefly for instructional purposes.

Please note that the library does not provide Reserve materials for all courses. While we can purchase non-textbook items, it is up to instructors to verify that the library has the appropriate materials for each of their courses. If we do not have your textbook available on Reserve, find out if your instructor is willing to donate a copy to the library, either permanently or temporarily (e.g. for the length of the current semester).

Finding Reserve Materials

To see what is currently available on Reserve for your class:

  • Go to the Online Library Catalog.
  • Click the Reserve Materials link under the main Search tab.
  • Search by course number or the last name of your instructor.

Search by Course:

  • Select Course Alphabetical from the drop-down menu
  • Enter your course number (e.g. ENGL C101)
  • Click on the course name to go to a list of titles and instructors
  • Click on each title for more information

Search by Instructor:

  • Select Instructor Alphabetical from the drop-down menu
  • Enter your instructor’s last name first. (e.g. Smith, John)
  • Click on the instructor’s name to go to a list of titles and courses
  • Click on each title for more information

Ask at the library circulation desk in the LRC for the book you want, preferably by title or course number. The library staff member will then check it out to you for the duration of your stay in the library.

Note: The library catalog does not list all the books required for your course; it only lists which books the library has available for your course. This list may also include previous editions to textbooks, which some instructors allow you to use. However, please check with your instructors first. To find a current list of your required textbooks, please visit the Bookstore.
