Student Employment
Student Employment provides an opportunity to fund your education while obtaining entrance level job skills and experience that will assist you in obtaining employment outside of the campus. Various student employment opportunities exist at Cerro Coso in a variety of areas. How to Apply for a Financial Aid Student Worker Position
All students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application at FAFSA on the Web every year to be considered for most student worker jobs. Apply for financial aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Financial Aid Work Study Programs
Federal Work Study (FWS)
Student workers are funded through the Federal Work Study Program, a federal financial aid program that requires that the student apply for federal financial aid, meet specific eligibility requirements and must have received a Cerro Coso College Financial Aid Award Letter. To be eligible for a FWS job, a student must be enrolled in at least six or more units and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Potential applicants must have the skills required for the job. All jobs on-campus and off-campus are supervised by faculty or staff. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for a list of jobs and a referral after the first week of the semester.
Cerro Coso College Work Study (CWS)
Student workers are funded through the Cerro Coso College Work Study Program, a program that requires that the student apply for federal financial aid and meet specific eligibility requirements as outlined on the CWS application packet [PDF]. The applicants will be reviewed and awarded by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. To be eligible for CWS job, a student must be enrolled in at least six or more units and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Potential applicants must have the skills required for the job. All on-campus and off-campus student workers are supervised by faculty or staff. If you are selected to participate in the CWS Work Study Program, you will be notified by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
Additional Requirements
All student workers will need to fill out a Student Employment hiring packet with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. You will be required to attend a Student Worker Orientation, either in person or online as recommended by the Director or Supervisor. All student workers will be provided with a Cerro Coso College Student Worker Handbook.
Other Jobs Opportunities
Jobs may also be available through other college programs and departments that you may be eligible for. Many of these jobs do not require students to file for financial aid, however, it is strongly recommended.
