Career Opportunities

SEEP- Student Educational Employment Programs

NAWCWD China Lake/Point Mugu, CA

The Naval Air Systems Command Weapons Division (NAVAIRWD) is the Navy’s premier facility for research, development, test, evaluation, and in-service engineering.  Our two sites in California – China Lake, 150 miles northeast of Los Angeles, and Point Mugu, on the coast in Ventura County – offer a creative and challenging work environment.

We recruit most of our new employees from the disciplines of:

  Engineering                        Computer Science

• Electronics                         Business Administration

• Mechanical                        Financial

• Aerospace                         Technology

However, students in other academic fields of study may also participate in the Department of Navy Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP).

SEEP is comprised of two components – the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP).  Both programs are available to students in pursuit of: high school diploma, vocational, technical, associate, baccalaureate, graduate, and doctorate degrees.

STEP provides flexibility to both students and the employer by providing temporary employment to students in areas, which may be unrelated to their academic program.

SCEP is a planned career development program that integrates classroom theory with related, paid work experience within NAVAIRWD.  The program offers students valuable work experience directly related to their academic field of study.

Eligibility Requirements

STEP & SCEP

1. Be at least 16 year old.

2. Be a U.S. citizen.

3. Meet security and/or fitness requirements.

4. Be enrolled or accepted at an accredited college/university or other educational institution.

5. Be in good academic standing (must enter with and maintain a grade point average of 2.0 for STEP and 2.5 for SCEP).  Failure to do so may result in termination from the program.

SCEP Only:

6. Be enrolled or accepted in a program and pursuing a degree/certificate in a career field utilized by NAVAIRWD.

7. Sign an agreement to remain employed with NAVAIRWD for a minimum of 1 year upon graduation.

Selection

Students are selected on the strength of academic accomplishments, career goals, and the current staffing needs of NAVAIRWD.

Benefits

STEP & SCEP:

•Supplemental income

•Annual Leave and Sick Leave

SCEP only:

•Possible Tuition and Textbooks Assistance

•Retirement benefits

•Life and Health Insurance benefits

Work Schedules

1. Work schedules may be full or part-time, as long as the schedule does not interfere with academic studies.

2. Students who alternate periods of study and employment must carry a full-time academic course load (12 semester or 15 quarter hours).  When school is not in session, students may work full-time.

3. Part-time students must have at least a half-time academic course load (as defined by the school).

4. Students will not be carried in a duty status while attending classes.  All absences related to class attendance must be recorded as annual leave or leave without pay (LWOP).

Application Process

To be considered for the SEEP, students must submit a resumé.

Upon selection, students will be required to submit a copy of current transcripts, which clearly identifies major course of study; grade point average; and anticipated date of graduation.

Submit resumés to www.navair.navy.mil/nawcwd, select Exciting Jobs, and then select Interns and Co-ops.
