Admissions Procedures

General Procedures

Non-exempt students (as defined in the Matriculation Exemption Policy statement and in the schedule of classes) entering Cerro Coso Community College must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete and submit an enrollment application form to the college Admissions and Records Office.

  2. Request transcripts from high school and each college previously attended. It is very important to have transcripts of other college course work sent to Cerro Coso prior to seeing a counselor so that the remaining requirements to achieve your educational objective can be determined.

  3. Meet with a counselor to assess your placement in college courses. (ASSESSMENT is required of ALL NEW NON-EXEMPT STUDENTS.) Placement will be determined by you and your counselor in light of several factors which may effect successful course completion. (Schedule an appointment by calling the college or extension office.)

  4. Contact the Student Services Center if you attend the Ridgecrest campus, or the extension office and schedule an appointment to see a counselor/ counseling technician for assistance with:
    • Interpretation of placement exam scores
    • Class selection
    • Educational goals
    • Career planning
  5. Attend an orientation session. (An orientation session is part of the matriculation process for ALL NEW NON-EXEMPT STUDENTS.)

  6. Register for classes as per published registration schedule.

  7. Attend classes. Much of your educational success can be attributed initially to simply showing up.

Enroll in an Orientation Course

All new, non-exempt students are expected to enroll in Personal Development 1, Becoming A Master Student. This is a two-unit course. Alternative sections of this course, PDEV C101, are available for special student populations. Becoming A Master Student will orient you to the college and help you to improve your study skills enhancing your opportunities for success in college. It will also cover career choice and development of educational goals. We recommend that you enroll in this course as early in your college career as possible in order to access the useful information presented in the course.
