Closed Captioning Policy

Cerro Coso Community College is required by law to have accessible material for any students with disabilities such as hearing impairment. These students are given all the available resources they need to have equal opportunities as other students by the alternative media center. To insure that the laws for getting the material for the disabled students are followed correctly, these are the guidelines for obtaining closed captioning for the video tapes:

  1. If a video tape with closed captioning is needed for a college class, the instructor must ask for the video tape with closed captioning.  Check the library first to see if it is already available in closed captioning.
  2. If the videotape does not have closed captioning on, it is the responsibility for requestor to obtain the written permission from publisher. The publisher’s permission must be in a written format so that the alternative media center has proof of the publisher’s permission.
  3. If the publisher gives its consent for the closed captioning request, the requestor must then submit his/her request along with the publisher's permission and transcripts to the Alternative Media Center.
  4. Once permission from the publisher is obtained, the Alternative Media Center will begin processing the request. Please keep in mind that it can take roughly two weeks or more to process the request.
