Alternative Media Center Policy

Alternative Media Center Policy

  1. Eligibility for this service is determined by the Special Services Counselor and is based in part on the professional documentation provided by the student. AMC services must be requested each semester needed. Counselors will work with students to provide the following items required for each semester.

    1. Students using services of the AMC must be enrolled in and show proof of enrollment for the class in which they are requesting alternative format.

    2. Students requesting materials in alternative formats must own a physical copy of the textbook and provide proof of purchase (Receipt or Voucher)  before the AMC will begin production.

  2. Requests for materials in alternative format will be considered on a case-by-case basis according to verified accommodations. Once a request is approved, the recommendation of Special Services professionals and student input will be used in determining the specific media format for each academic course.

  3. Alternative format requests must be submitted as soon as the student learns of their need so that the AMC can either request the E-text from publishers or make other alternative media format in-house in a timely manner.

  4. Delivery of alternative format requests is determined on a case-by-case basis. In some cases, they rely heavily on the publisher’s efficiency and the internal structure of textbook students will use.
    a) If the Alternative Media is not picked up within 2 weeks of notification, it will be returned.

  5. Material provided to the AMC for the purpose of conversion to alternative format may be disassembled and returned to the students in its altered condition.

  6. The AMC will not be held responsible for any damage to the materials that occur as a result of conversion to alternative format.

  7. In accordance with copyright laws, student will not copy or reproduce any material provided by the AMC nor allow anyone else to do so. Misuse of the material is subject to disciplinary action.

  8. The AMC should maintain an inventory of E-text files received from publishers and arrange for storing a master copy of the E-text and post a description of the materials on the Alternative Media website.

  9. Once students receive their alternative format, any questions should be directed to Alternative Media Specialist at 384-6335.

  • Alternative Media may also require use with other things i.e. …computer, software.  Computers are available for use in the High Tech Center.

  • Basic computer skills are needed.

  • Training on the use of the Alternative Media is required before receiving materials.

I have read and had the above explained to me, I agree with all terms stated in this policy.
