What is High Tech Center and who is eligible for this service?

The High Tech Center is a assistive computer training center designed to train individuals with disabilities to use assistive technologies. All DSPS students are eligible for this service.

Where is the High Tech Center located?

The High Tech Center is currently located in the Special Services in Room 312.

What is the open hour for High Tech Center lab and its phone number?

Monday through Thursday: 7:30am to 5:30pm, Friday: 8:00am to 12:00pm
Summer: Monday through Thursday 7:00am to 6:00pm, Friday: Close

Who can assist me in the High Tech Center?

The High Tech Center lab assistant will assist you in the lab.

What skills do I need in the High Tech Center to facilitate my study?

Generally speaking, you'd better have some basic computer skills which will help you access to the assistive technologies easier.  If you do not have any basic computer skills, our High Tech Center lab assistants would be happy to assist you from the very beginning.

What is Assistive Technology?

Assistive technology are software and hardware tools which can often provide equal access to computer resources for people with disabilities.

Software: JAWS, Kurzwel 1000
Hardware: 4-track tape recorder, Talking Calculator

What software/hardware are available for low vision?

Software: ZoomText
Hardware: CCTV, Screen Magnifier

What accommodations are available for deaf?

American Sign Language (ASL), Closed Captioning, and Note Taker

What software/hardware are available for motor disability?

Software: Dragon Naturally Speaking
Hardware: Assistive Keyboard, Mouse, and accessible workstation
