Web Development and Video Courses Offered This Fall

Cerro Coso Community College is offering two digital media arts courses at the Bishop campus this Fall that enhance personal and professional development.
DMA C111 XHTML/CSS equips students with web development skills for the creation and maintenance of personal or business web sites. Students also learn how to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to make a site attractive on multiple devices (computer, mobile phone, print, etc.) The Web has become an essential medium for personal and business communications, and acquiring web development skills will enable participants to communicate more effectively. Economic Modeling Specialists, Inc. (EMSI) projects that over the next 5 years 177 new jobs will be created in the Mono, Inyo, and Eastern Kern counties in the internet and graphic design industries. DMA C111 is a required core course in the Web Design Certificate and Associate Degree programs, both of which equip students for obtaining employment in these industries.
DMA C111 meets Monday evenings from 5:10 – 6:35 pm in Room 120, beginning August 23 and ending December 6. The Course Registration Number (CRN) is 72168. The instructor, Suzie Ama, has worked in the field of graphic and web design for over 25 years and has taught digital media arts at Cerro Coso for 10 years. She is the coordinator for the Web Design program and faculty chair for the Digital Media Arts Department at Cerro Coso. She is vigilant to ensure that the curriculum reflects current developments in the industry. She has a Bachelors of Fine Art from American InterContinental University and a Masters of Science in Education from California State University East Bay.
DMA C131 Digital Video Production equips students with techniques including single camera operation and procedures, sound design, scriptwriting, lighting, and digital video editing. The course also includes analysis of post-production digital editing suites. Hobbyists will enjoy the ability to create professional quality video from their clips of the beautiful Eastern Sierra scenery and recreation. Students who wish to obtain employment in the field of digital video production, will benefit from this course, as well. EMSI projects that over the next 5 years 133 new jobs will be created in the Mono, Inyo, and Eastern Kern counties in the motion picture, television broadcasting, video, and commercial photography industries. This course provides core skills for entry positions in those industries.
DMA C131 meets Monday evenings from 7:00 – 9:30 pm in Room 110, beginning
August 23 and ending December 6. The Course Registration Number (CRN) is
72217. The instructor, Ray Hocker, has a Masters of Fine Art in Digital
Cinema Production from National University. He has recently produced high
definition video programming on several cable channels. Ray teaches digital
video courses at Cerro Coso and is particularly enthusiastic about the
opportunities that Eastern Sierra scenery and community events provide as
subject matter for student projects.
Cerro Coso Community College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The Web Design Certificate and Associate Degree is an approved academic program by the California State Chancellor's Office.
