CCCC Offering Two Online Theatre Courses this Fall

July 31, 2009

Cerro Coso Community College is offering two online late start theatre courses this fall instructed by Dr. Melinda Fogle Oliver.  Both classes are core requirements for the Theatre major and also fulfill the Humanities requirement for non-majors.   These are great courses for actors, theatre technicians, and anyone with an interest in literature or the art of theatre.  Students will become more familiar with a variety of plays and the history and process of theatre.  These late start online classes will begin on September 8, 2009 and end on November 21, 2009.  Students may register on campus or online at www.cerrocoso.edu.

Introduction to Theatre (THEA C101, CRN #73108, 3-Units) - This course explores many aspects of the theatre.  Students will learn about the key players in the theatre, including the playwright, director, actor, and the designer.  The goal is to heighten the student’s appreciation and understanding of the art of theatre.  The course will cover theatre history and dramatic literature from Ancient Greece to present-day theatre.

Introduction to Play Reading (THEA C103, CRN #73109, 3-Units) – This course provides an introduction to play reading.  Students will read and discuss a variety of plays, considering each play from the practical perspective of the actor, director, designer, and technician.  The course will also cover the fundamental dramatic elements, styles and genres.

The Fall 2009 Schedule of Classes is available on campus or through the College website at www.cerrocoso.edu.  Don’t delay, register today, the regular Fall Semester begins on August 24, 2009.
