CCCC Offers Classes in English As a Second Language

January 17, 2008

English made easy?  Easier!  The Cerro Coso Community College Eastern Sierra College Center Bishop and Mammoth campuses are offering three levels for learning English as a second language.  These classes will help improve your English speaking and writing skills for better job opportunities and community awareness.  Anyone who wants to improve their English should register today!

The first level class is designed for people beginning to learn the English language and focuses on conversation and vocabulary – ENSL C020 (CRN: 30677, Bishop; CRN: 30205, Mammoth).  In the second class, grammar and vocabulary usage, as well as listening and speaking skills, will be emphasized – ENSL C021 (CRN: 30206, Bishop; CRN: 30696, Mammoth).  The third class concentrates on reading and writing skills – ENSL C022 (CRN: 30678, Bishop; CRN: 30697, Mammoth).  All three classes practice speaking, reading and writing skills and are 2-units each.

The Bishop Campus instructor is Julie Metz, BA and MA in English, specialist in teaching English Learners and instructor at the Bishop Campus for four years.

The Mammoth Campus instructor, Michaela Monahan, has been teaching English at the community college level for ten years, with much of her experience working with non-native English speakers.  Monahan focuses on reaching all her learners through a variety of teaching styles and learning activities, and she shifts the activities frequently to keep her students motivated, engaged, and challenged.  She also speaks Spanish and has lived and studied in Mexico.

These classes start on January 23, 2008.  For the Bishop Campus these classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:05 p.m.  For the Mammoth Campus classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
