Cerro Coso Holds 24th Annual Visual Arts Invitational High School Workshop

April 17, 2007

On Friday, April 20, 2007, Cerro Coso Community College will host the Twenty Fourth Annual Visual Arts Invitational High School Workshop at the College’s Ridgecrest Campus. The workshop was created as a recruiting tool and the College invites juniors and seniors from high schools in the service area who are considering pursuing a career in the art field. Students will be treated to an intensive one day community college experience based on art courses.

Once again the College has received excellent responses from the area high schools and expects approximately 80 students and their art instructors to be visiting the Cerro Coso Community College art facilities. The students will be taking three hour college level instruction classes in a variety of visual art, media art, and theater course content. Each student will take a morning class and an afternoon class.

The theater students (about 29 students from Burroughs High School) will work with instructor Melinda Fogle Oliver all day and put on a presentation in the Lecture Center at 4:15 p.m. that afternoon. The workshop will include a continental breakfast and a barbecue lunch for the participants and helpers.

This year, Cerro Coso Community College will also hold High School Workshops at the Eastern Sierra College Center in Bishop on Friday, May 4, 2007 and at the Mammoth Lakes Campus of Tuesday, May 15, 2007 to accommodate their local junior and senior high school students pursuing a career in the art field.
