Cerro Coso College Now Has Lower Fees

January 8, 2007

Paying for your education just got a bit cheaper….thanks to the California legislators. California community college fees have dropped from $26 to $20 per unit effective January 1, 2007. Students who register at Cerro Coso Community College now for the Spring 2007 will enroll at the $20 rate. The change comes from state Assembly Bill 1802, signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger July 19.

Community colleges around the state saw a drop in enrollment when fees were raised from $18 to $26 in fiscal year 2004-05, said Ron Owens, spokesman for California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Kern Community College District Chancellor Sandra Serrano praised the fee decrease as fitting for the community college goal of providing access to local, affordable education.

Dr. Mary Retterer, interim president at Cerro Coso Community College, said the fee decrease will help students with other college expenses. “Our students need every break they can get with respect to finances.”

Students may register for Cerro Coso Spring 2007 classes on the web at www.cerrocoso.edu. On-campus registration will continue through January 19, no appointment is necessary.

Spring classes convene on January 20, 2007. Late registration will be conducted January 22 through 26. Register now for best class selections.

For a counseling appointment, financial aid, placement exam, or for more information call the Cerro Coso Community College Office in Lake Isabella at 379-5501.
