Cerro Coso Transferring Faculty

Ridgecrest, CA – May 4, 2006

Due to a decline in enrollment and the related loss of revenue associated with those enrollments, Cerro Coso Community College will be transferring five faculty to Bakersfield College, effective with the 2006-2007 academic year.

Cerro Coso has commenced efforts to increase enrollments while providing educational and vocational programs to meet the on-going needs of Ridgecrest and neighboring communities.

Dr. Sharon K. Dyer, Cerro Coso president, stated that “While transfer of faculty is not the most desirable approach to balancing a budget, it allows the affected faculty to maintain district employment while assisting Cerro Coso Community College to achieve financial viability.”

Cerro Coso Community College and Bakersfield College, along with Porterville College, are the three colleges that make up the Kern Community College District.
