News ReleaseAll Campuses Ted Higle Named Cerro Coso's Spring 2006 "Student of the Semester"Ridgecrest, CA – May 1, 2006
Higle attends the Cerro Coso Indian Wells Valley Campus and is currently enrolled in 12 units, has completed 51.5 units, and holds a 3.40 GPA. In addition to his busy schedule, Higle works 10 hours per week as a tutor in the College Learning Assistance Center, has tutored at a local elementary school, is a volunteer for the Salvation Army, President of the College Special Services Club, and recently won the College election for President of the Associated Student Body. Higle is majoring in Mathematics. Higle was nominated by instructor, John Garcia. Garcia stated, “After
having served in the Navy during Operation Desert Storm, Ted worked for
awhile and then decided that schooling is what he lacked and Cerro Coso
Community College was exactly what he needed. Ted finished my reading course
with a very high “A,” something that is not easy in my classes due to the
extensive amount of reading and writing that I require. His work ethic,
discipline to detail, Aside from the excellent work Ted has done, he practices a nose-to-the-grindstone attitude in order to achieve his goals. Ted’s educational goals include an A.A. Degree in General Education, to pursue a B.A. Degree in Math with a credential in teaching. Eventually, he wants to work on his Masters Degree and Doctorate in Math and one day become a professor at a major university. I am not only proud of what Ted has done the past few semesters, but I am also impressed at his level of energy, his enthusiasm in school, and his positive outlook for his future.” “The Alumni Association is very proud to bestow this award on Mr. Ted
Higle acknowledging his dedication and many achievements by selecting him as
the Alumni Association’s Spring 2006 “Students of the Semester,” stated
Director of Information, Development and Alumni Relations, Joann Handeland.
Higle was presented with a framed certificate of appreciation, an alumni
pin, a $200 cash award, a special Cerro Coso logo remembrance gift, and his
name and picture displayed at the College on the “Student of the Semester”
bulletin board. His name was also added to a perpetual plaque honoring all
recipients of this distinguished award.
