Cerro Coso Students Attend Taping of Dr. Phil Show

Ridgecrest, CA – February 22, 2006

Thirty-eight Cerro Coso Community College TRiO students boarded the bus this morning to attend a taping of the Dr. Phil show! Cerro Coso staff contacted the Dr. Phil show inquiring of the possibility of taking a group of students to one of the tapings. Within a few days the Dr. Phil show contacted Cerro Coso and informed staff that they had reserved seats and would be sending the Dr. Phil bus to pick up the students. In order to participate in this event, TRiO students were required to fill out the necessary paperwork, meet with an educational advisor, and attend a mandatory informational meeting.

The TRiO Program eligibility requirements state the student must be at least one of the following: low income, first generation college student, or a verified disabled individual. The TRiO Program assists students with their academic goals, and provides academic advising and planning. TRiO Program participation provides students with a college skills workshop, cultural enrichment events, financial aid & scholarship research, and transfer assistance and tutoring.
