Cerro Coso's State Preschool Enrollment

Ridgecrest, CA – July 21, 2005

The Cerro Coso Community College State Preschool is now enrolling for the 2005/2006 school year. Classes begin August 8, 2005 and enrollment will continue until classes are full.

The Cerro Coso Child State Preschool is funded through the Department of Education and provides high quality experiences to children 3 years of age (by Dec 2, 2005) to the start of Kindergarten. The preschool is located at Robert P. Ulrich Elementary School, 9124 Catalpa Ave., California City, CA.

The preschool is free for qualifying families.

The Cerro Coso State Preschool follows Title V of the California Department of Education, Child Development Division in planning our curriculum. Our curriculum is child centered and developmentally appropriate. It is based on the philosophy that each child learns and develops at his or her own pace. The curriculum takes into account the whole child looking specifically at four stages of development: physical, cognitive, social and emotional. Daily, children are challenged to explore and grow. Learning centers and activities are planned to be both age appropriate and individually appropriate for all children in the classroom. Examples of skills that children will develop as they engage in these activities and learning centers include: pre-literacy, math concepts, science, writing, use of tools (pencils, pens, scissors, etc.), large motor (pedaling, running, skipping, climbing, etc.), reasoning and problem solving, communication and forming friendships. Developmentally appropriate curriculum provides opportunities to support each child’s home culture while also allowing all children to participate in the shared culture of others.

The Preschool collaborates with Robert P. Ulrich Elementary School to prepare the preschool child for their transition into kindergarten.
