Desert Planters continue in landscaping efforts of college

Ridgecrest, CA – May 15, 2004

Desert Planters Garden Club, led by past president Donnie Woods, began a large-scale landscaping project at Cerro Coso Community College in February.

Since beginning the project, members have planted perenniels and flowering shrubs along the terraced areas of the campus' drive to bring more color to the landscape.

Children from the Kern County Probation Department have also assisted by helping to dig holes and clearing away weeds. Members hope that, in the future, a youth garden club can be established so they could learn about caring for the plants. Both the college and the garden club have contributed funds towards the landscaping project. This fall, more plants will be added in unfinished areas. Individuals interested in gardening are welcome to participate in the project as well.

"Battling the wind can be challenging, but if the plants survive, so can we," said Woods.

For more information or to receive a work schedule, call Donnie Woods at 375-7243.
