Topic 1: First Aid Kit Sales Drive

DON: This sale will be a service to the community as well as a fundraiser for club and foundation (our favorite charity). The foundation exists to raise money in order to build a new campus in the Kern Valley community.  Foundation is working on a student commons area as well as signage for the college and a handicap accessible door for the college. These are emediate goals of the foundation.

[Don presented the kits, looked over first aid kits that will be for sale. There are several different models of kit.]

DON: There are order blanks for every person who will sell the kits. We will sell within a two week span, students working as sellers similar to the ice cream sales of previous semesters.

Sale Date: March 15-26

Promotion: Beginning of March

Arrival Date: The week after sales week.

Our kick-back: We need to get that information and have it at the next meeting.

We will have the weeks of sale for you all at the next meeting.

DANIELLE: “How much do we get from each sale?” We don’t have that information readily available. We will have the answer for next time.

JASON: “Other schools do fundraisers that will compete with us. And also order time is an issue. How long does it take to get here? How many local store owners are willing to help us?”

SHERYL: We’ve got a lot of local support, but we don’t want a residual sale, we want a block sale.

JASON: Can we keep selling throughout the year if the ball starts rolling?

DON: Probably, if momentum gets going.

JASON: Businesses can sell them for high prices and make a big profit, so let’s sell to them.

DON: It’s a tax write off for the business

JASON: What about WalMart? WalMart gives 25%-%50  of what org. makes. They match funds raised by group. This is big! So if we can get somebody in there to check out the possibilities.

LORAINE: Can we sell in Ridgecrest?

DON: Yes. Good idea.

JASON: The signage for the college should be easily repaired because of possible vandalism.

DON: The sign will be metal, and there is paint that will cover vandalism.

JASON: I work construction, so there’s free labor right here. I’ve got acetalyne torches, other tools, etc.

Don and Sheryl

Topic 2: ASCC Meetings and Representation

GARY: We need representatives, so let us know if you’re interested, and we’ll get you all the information.

JASON: I’m going to check to see if I can make it to the meetings.

Gary

Topic 3: March on Sacramento

DON: The march is March 15th, and EOPS is working on getting a bus to go.

Don

Topic 4: EOPS Credit for these Meetings

Tim: EOPS will give EOPS credit for attending these meeting, so we need to get the word out about this.

Tim

Topic 5: Campus Newspaper

TIM: We have a campus newspaper that’s stalled.

JASON: Can we talk to this editor and see if she wants to be relieved?

GARY: Paper needs to be worked on here, on campus, and not at home. All work needs to be here so that if one editor fall behind, the other editor or editors can pick up the slack and the editing and printing can move ahead as sheduled.

Tim

Topic 6: Awards Ceremony

DON: May 7 is KRV Awards Ceremony where we recognize our own graduates and certificate recipients. Recaps the whole year. Carolene is helping me put it together, but we need more people on the commity so that we can put it together.

JASON: Have you ever considered an outside event? I’ve been to awards ceremonies outside that are great little ceremonies.

GARY: It’s been done, but according to certain accounts, it was a disaster because of wind, heat, wasted funds, etc. But maybe it can be done better.

DON: This is something to consider in the advanced planning stages of the future. We can ask the former dean what went wrong with the outdoor ceremony.

Open Forum

SHERYL: James’s truck has broke and we need someone to collect the cans and take them in.

TIM: I will do it this time, but we need to find someone else for the future.

SHERYL: James will have his truck fixed in the future and will be taking the job again.

JASON: What do we need to do to get the campus built?

DON: The foundation needs to be set up, and it’s pretty much set up now to take donations. The name of it is Kern River Valley Educational and Cultural Foundation. It takes an accumulation of 40 acres in order to build a new campus.

SHERYL: What do we want to do with coffee stuf.

TIM: Table it till we know what we’re doing with it.
