Agenda Topics

12 noon

Don calls the meeting to order.

We have some changes in are menu from last week.  The dates were extended for the ice cream raiser: we had an extra weekend put in.  Garys printing off the exact dates.  We’ll start the actual selling on the 30th of October.  Its been extended from that weekend to the following weekend for seeling the ice cream and collecting the checks.  The truck will get here on the 19th, and she will set that all up,  providing that we have enough interest.  We still have to go through the pre-qualifing phase to get enough interst.  When we go through that, then we will go through the sales, knowing that it is confrontable.

We need commettes to help in all phases.  We have some faculty and staff that will help on the 19th, and that’s an all day thing.  We have different phases, getting committements, we need word of mouth spreading the word.  When we do go into each class, we need a person with a bubbly type personality.   Someone whose really known on campus, like Jean did last semister and talk to each student.   They’ll  talk to each student and give them the low-down.

Selling time is basically the same, but we have a little more prep time.  In the rush time that we have, we should  be able to do more for the foundation than what we’re doing.

Lets stay on this topic: the Kern River Valley Foudation is educationally and  cultural has asked us to do this fund raiser.  We need to know, what would we charge, in a nut shell.  Some of us have gooten to tegether, and agreed on 10%, but I don’t know that this is enough.  The money will go to the ASB.  The foundation is an educational, cultural: primarily to help this community, and primarliy this collega, itself.  Our long term goal is to build this campus.

If we make eight grand, that’s $2500.00.   We’ll kick it around and discuss that.  If we go a little bit less on a percentage, than ask for a donation, the Sherwood Foundation, that would cover enough.  We’ll come up with a number figure that would represent that on the commettee.  We have maybe 25 , 50 in the excutive committee.  I say that maybe, 10 and 15 would be more .  If we get a little less of a percentage and ask the Sherwood Foundation for a larger donation, I think that this would be enough.   We’ll throw it into the Sherwood Fund that would benefit both campuses, is that right Michell.

Who was the Sherwood?                                               attendee

Kirk Sherwood was a student                                         Don

He was a councilar that was so well love that they named a foundation ater

after him.

Attention:

Don

Sheryl

Was he in a tragic accicedent like a car accident.

Don

Yes

Sheryl

They have a fund that helps needy students.  We’ve had a couple of student s here that have utilized that.   If you get into a jam finacially, you have to fill out the paperwork to apply for it.  If it is a warrant emergency, then they will loan you the money.  Hopefully, you will pay them back, but if you can’t, they don’t put pressure on you to get it back.   If you get back on your feet, and you’re able to pay it back, I don’t see why you shouldn’t.  If you’re able to to pay some or all of it back, they would appreciate that.  It’s pretty much on the honor system.

So that, along with a percentage rate that we can spend on this campus, and the reservation that we have something that comes up, and we don’t have the money to cover that.  This foundation will step up because their short goal is to make this campus better.

The handicap access, the no smoking area, and something that is on the drawing board that can happen is a lean-to type top on a bench  out there by the handicap parking is.  We’ll move the handicap parking to get things out of the way.  Those are some of the things that we are looking at now.  They’ve been looking at this things since I’ve been here.  Now, we have an outside entatees that have funding to do that.    There are business people involved, and this could be good for everybody.  After we leave here, someone else could use this, or they could even turn it into a bus stop later.

We have a seven year lease here, and our goal is that no later than seven years, that we have a campus.

The bench area could be the smoking area to keep it away from the building.

Don

I think we should talk about the minutes last time, about the ice cream fund raiser.

Gary

O.K., we start on October 30th, that’s our selling date.  It’s extended to November 3rd.   We have the 10th, that’s when we do our talley.  We’ll bring the energy level up.  There are people here that are familiar with the way that Jean Pack did it last semister.  Unfortunately, I was not in a classroom that she came into.  She came into my cubicle and said, here’s a stack of them, how many boxes are you going to obligate to.    It takes three per each student, so everyone should try to sell at least three.

Don

So, delievery date will be on the 19th.

Ruth

Yes, right out there, like we did before.  We’ll chage a few things to make it go a little smoother.    The sales is between October 30th to November 3rd.  Is that right Gary?

Don

Yes,  and we’ll have a weekend

Gary

That’s only four days, that’s not very long, because I have

Ruth

Yeh, that’s not very long.  This is what we have.

Gary

October 20th

Attendee

It goes to the 10th

It seats in the truck.  People come as early as possible to take up their ice cream.  It’s in a refridgerated truck where the doors are open and closed.

My ice cream was o.k.    Monic picked mine up for me, and took it home with her.

Don

I put mine in an ice chest with ice.

Attendee

It won’t be quite as hot this time when people pick up the ice cream, so we will have that in our favor.

Don

We need to form a committee and get people involve that will be doing this.  Get people revved up.  We are going to talley all the commentments and see if we have enough.  Then, it’s a go.    Then let the people know when the official selling date is.  And let them now that the end is November 10th through that final week.

Gary

And the truck gets here the 19th.

Ruth

Yes, the 19th

Gary

And it’s the same as last time, people can buy the ice cream, than they don’t want the ice cream.  We can resell, we have a buyer already that will pick up any boxes that are not picked up.    If they want to just do a donation, they can write a check and put, donation.  If they want to buy some boxes, their donations would grow.  They can buy the boxes, and let us resell them.    Unless they want to give a large donation, we’ll take the cash.    Or if they want to buy in bulk.  We can actually work that out, just like before.   There’s a coulple of prospects.    And, that’s how that is going to work.

Lawerance is going to help.  His worked the truck, and we need someone there that’s familiar with things.  We need someone to watch for boxes that are not picked up and decide where to put things.  Lawerance did that last time, and he has already agreed to go with the truck.

Chris Ludlow, I’ve talked with him and his committed.   We have a couple of people that are already familiar with it.  If we can couple some people that are just going to help with people that are committed.  The main thing is October 20th to October 28th, get them pumped up.

Don

Is there going to be any outside advertising?

attendee

Yes, it will be in the newspaper, and public service annoucements on the radio.

We have some files that are corrupted   I have a lot of that stuff on the file.  I have to get with Jean Pack.

Don

O.K.  What committees need to be formed now?

Gary

I’ve talked with Monic, and since she was so instrumental on getting me here.  She had students ready to vote, before I was even here.   She knows everything, so.  She’s a real good person.  She’s our special ---- assitantent.

We’re going to get with Jean and get the kit that she used.  Those files that Jean sent us,  I’ve got the correct sheet.  The rest of the file is corrupted.    We have Sheryl who helped us the last time we had a sale.  We’ll do a couple of drive bys.  Then, people in here, Ruth.  Just drive by people and mention the ice cream sale coming up.  Tell the community at large.   Get people prepared and going.

Everythings going to happen the same way.  Make the checks out the same way.  Kern River Valley  Revitalation Committee.

Part of those corupted files had things like the fat boy,  so we have to go back and get them.  These come from the factory and are proficient.  These are ice creams that are sold retail.  They come from Utah.

Don

We could go to Ridgecrest and sell.

attendee

Ice cream does have a conflict with what’s going on in Ridgecrest.  This could get us all in trouble.  We can’t sell the ice cream on the Ridgecrest Campus.  There is a large ice cream business that donates to the campus, so we can’t sell there.

When we sell the first aid kits, than we can do that on the Ridgecrest campus.  This will have a duo purpose as well.  I’m sure that what ever officers are elected, they’ll help us then.    I think that we will work through it all.

Just because someone is not elected, hopefully, they will still be apart of the ASB.

The newsletter:  Vanessa is going to do our newsletter.

It was hard to get things going on that teleconference.  We tried to get things going, but is just didn’t work.

O. K.  any news worthy items are going to be funneled through Vanessa.  She’s going to do the newsletter.  She’s also going to get a hold with Braxton Walls.  And try to get things on-line, a web-site.   We’ll try to get as much as we want, we will try to get in there, one way or another.

We’re working on a logo for this campus.   You know how KRV is the loud mouth?  Cero Coso’s logo is the coyote which is the little pointy one.  We opened our mouth up last year, so here we our.

Don shows picture of coyote.   What do you guys think?

Don

I think that the mouth has to be opened a little wider.  Max out how wide the coyote mouth.

Don’t make him so healthy looking.

James

I haven’t heard from Erskin Creek Water Company yet.

More talk about the new logo.

We’re going to do the meetings now at 12 noon because Vanessa has class at 1p.m.

I need some assistance here,  I’ll get Tim.

Don

At our last executive meeting, it was suggested that we fix the no smoking section so that it is more visible.  We are trying to enforce that so the ASB Club has bought some red paint.  We picked it up at Home Depot.  And we bought some spray cans for asphalt, and we’re going to try and mark it off.  The art department is making the newest no smoking logo.

Gary

They’re having problems with the materials, because, when the simbol is on the pavement, it won’t lift up then.

Sheryl

So, in any case, we need to set a date for when its going to be put down.

Tim comes in.

Gary continues:  We need to set up a time. We need to  have masking tape and paint ready.

Gary

Do we have the authorization to do it yet?

Don

Yes.   We need to get things going because someone is going to come in and pressure wash.

Gary

Mr. Green said that he would come in and do the geometry.

Don

It’s already marked off in yellow with the snap line.

Tim

We’re waiting to hear back from the James Station in South Lake to see if they are going to donate or not.  We do have the money to buy our supplies.  It’s a very low cost project.

We have a Halloween Show at the First Baptist Church.  Every year at the Halloween Harvast Festival, they have trick or treat for the kids.  They have games, candy, and a good time for kids.  They might possible have a band.  They asked us if we would like to set up a booth to sell quality coffee like Starbucks, hot cider with cinemin sticks and hot chocolate for the kids.  Set up for two hours, bring whatever you need  We can work with the James Station, they want to donate, but not use the ASB cards.

Later, we might add a hot dog sale.  If worst comes to worst, we’ll go down to Cosco, and buy what we need.

Don

What about some flavored coffee?

attendee

We’ll get some flavored creamers to put in.  We’ll keep it simple.  We want to keep it family oriented.

Don

Can we invite the whole community.

attendee

We can do that,  We can invite the whole community, that way we have a better chance.  Is there anything else that we missed?  Do we have any volunteers for the committee?  Can we get some commentment right now?  Lawrence is out there manning the box, his already committed.  Instead of separte committees, I think that we should start off with one large committee, than we’ll break off into separate ones.

Don

We need to cover different classes, from different times.

Sheryl

Monic and I can do the drive bys in the day.  The second time around, Sheryl would be good, because she’s familiar with the pitch that she has already given.  We can do this, the three of us.  Vanessa can go around, depending on her scheadual.

Don

What about the night classes?

attendee

I come about 9 in the morning and leave about 9 at night.

Don

I have night classes

Tim

I have a night class also.

Vanessa

You want people going in and getting some bussiness, right?

attendee

First, we get them pumped up, and then we get comitment.

Don

So, it’s a one time deal.  Just go on in, and introduce the idea.

Tim

We do an actual pitch.  Be natural, almost a sales pitch.

Don

Could someone make a speal?

James

Jean Pack has already done this.  We’re going to go right off of this, because it works.  We are going to have to fix the records, because those files are corupted.

Don

Everyone that is going to commit is going to want to know where the money is going.

Tim

It’s going to the foundation.  The foundation can give it back to us. The foundation will give us 10%: we’ll be doing the work of the foundation.

Treasury report:  $1597.81 as of yesterday.  Did you, Sheryl request the $2000.00

Don

Yes, but nobody knows anything about it.

Sheryl

We finally got money for the awards cerimony.  It’s budget in.  This is why we’re doing the fund raiser this way.

Monday, you can pass the word about the ASB cards.  The pictures will be takened in the same manner as before.  We’ll bypass the profile.

O.K., meeting adjourn.

Don
