Cerro
Coso Community College and the Cerro Coso Community College Foundation are
teaming up to sponsor an Astronomical Barbecue & Star Party. Mark your
calendars for this fun-filled fundraiser is a benefit for the “Dr. Alex
Shlanta Astronomical Observatory” at Cerro Coso. The fundraiser is scheduled
for Friday, October 27 with the barbecue dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the
College Library’s front lawn and the Star Party beginning at 7:30 p.m. at
the Observatory. Adjunct faculty member Dr. Alex Shlanta and Interim
President of Cerro Coso, Dr. Mary Retterer are both happily anticipating the
festivities and holding the poster publicizing the event. “Yesterdaze” a
popular local band and the Cerro Coso Band will both be providing musical
entertainment during the dinner. Presale tickets are adults: $8.00, children
$6.00, and family four-pack $25.00. Tickets are available at Lou’s Hallmark,
Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce, and the Cerro Coso Business Office.
