Sunset over the Indian Wells ValleyWelcome to the Indian Wells Valley, located in the High Desert region of the Mojave Desert. The 320-acre IWV Campus of Cerro Coso is located in the city of Ridgecrest, home to approximately 28,000 residents and the residents of the Naval Base at China Lake.

Ridgecrest is located 130 miles northeast of Los Angeles and 120 miles east of Bakersfield. The Indian Wells Valley is the gateway to a wealth of recreational and cultural sites in the High Desert, with a variety of activities all within a short drive, from Death Valley, to the Trona Pinnacles (seen in such movies as Star Trek V and Planet of the Apes) and Red Rock Canyon, as well as the many petroglyphs found in the surrounding area. With the Eastern Sierra mountains nearby a trip to Lake Isabella or the Kern River is just moments away.

Some of the favorite activities enjoyed by Cerro Coso students in the IWV are hiking, camping, river rafting, skiing, mountain biking, and the occasional trip to the beach to go surfing. With 360 days of sun per year the IWV is never short of beautiful weather in which to enjoy your favorite activities.
