ESCC Art Club Presents

The First Annual Art Festival & Community Competition

Emerging artists always bring new excitement to the arts, with this in mind Cerro Coso Community College’s Art Club is sponsoring it’s First Annual Art Festival and Community Competition with a gala opening night May 1, 2009, from 5 PM until 9 PM, at the Cerro Coso College Bishop Campus. We have a community of exceptional artists and photographers. The competition is an opportunity to share your artistic talent with our community.

After the opening night the exhibit will be displayed at the college from May 1 until May 15. The exhibit will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 PM until 7 PM and on graduation night, May 8, 2009, prior to and after graduation.

Each category will be judged by a panel of three different judges who are known for their expertise in the particular category. Judges will offer brief critiques to individual submissions as time permits.

About the art competition*:

  1. The competition is open to all amateur artists and photographers.
  2. There are two age divisions: kindergarten through 12th grade, and adult.
  3. You may submit two entries in each of the following categories: two dimensional art, three dimensional art, and photography.
  4. There is a $10 entry fee for each submission ($5.00 for Cerro Coso students). There is no entry fee for the kindergarten through 12th grade division.
  5. Submissions must be delivered to the Bishop Campus on Friday, April 24, 2009, between 4 PM and 8 PM, or on Saturday morning between 9 AM and 1 PM. Submissions may be picked up at the Bishop Campus on Saturday, May 16, 2009, from 9 AM to 1 PM and on Monday, May 18, 2009, 4 PM until 7 PM.
  6. Two dimensional art must be no larger than 600 square inches (24x36”), three dimensional art to 3000 cubic inches, photography must be mounted on an 11 x 14 mount board and the image must be between 5 x 7 and 8 ˝ x 11.
  7. Prizes in the adult category: $100 first place, $75 second place, and $50 third place. There will be ribbons awarded to three honorable mention winners in each category. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in the k through 12 category, and ribbons awarded to three honorable mention winners in each category. Winners will be announced at the opening of the show, May 1.
  8. There will also be an opportunity for the community to vote for their favorite images (best of show) during the opening night celebrations. Those who attend may vote for their three favorite “best of show” images. Winners will be posted May 4th with ribbons for the top three finishers.
  9. Art and photography will also be for sale. Those entering the contest will have the option of offering their art/photography for sale. Art or photography entered in the contest will be listed either “for sale” or “not for sale.” Contestants will set a price for their work which will be posted with the art/photography. Proceeds from the sale of art/photography will go directly to the winning participant. A 20% donation to the Cerro Coos Art Club from the proceeds of the sale is requested. Purchasers of art/photography may pick up their purchase at the Bishop Campus on May 16, 2009, from 9 AM until 1 PM, and on May 18, 2009, from 4 PM until 7 PM.
The Festival and Competition is a great opportunity for you to share your art and photography with the community and to see the work of your peers, and for the community to experience the talents of our emerging artists.

There will also be a faculty exhibition (non-judged) on display during the art/photography show. Along with the faculty exhibit there will also be a sale, in the library, of second hand art books.
