Cerro Coso is Offering a four-part Drama Workshop entitled, “Becoming a Working Actor.” To participate in all four workshops (listed below), students should sign up for Drama C199D, a one-unit course beginning October 4th. Students may enroll in up to three of the workshops for free and for zero credit.

There are four (4) separate workshops:

  • Employment Opportunities for Actors
    Drama C049 CRN # 73140
    October 4th 12:00 – 4:20pm Room: 246

In addition to learning about employment opportunities in the entertainment industry, students will become familiar with the key industry players, from the casting director to the agent. The course will also familiarize students with the various performers' unions.

  • Employment Strategies for Actors
    Drama C049A CRN # 73142
    October 18th 12:00 – 4:20pm Room: Lecture Center

Students will learn about the essential marketing tools and how to use those tools strategically. This workshop will feature a guest speaker from TVI Actors Studio. TVI Actors Studio is the nation's largest resource center for actors, offering continued dramatic instruction, entertainment industry networking, professional career consultation, and marketing support for actors. Alan Nusbaum, founder and CEO of TVI, was an agent at the prestigious Cunningham, Escott, Dipene Agency. Some of the clients he represented included Courtney Cox, Sandra Bullock, Phoebe Cates, and Margeux Hemingway.

  • Auditioning I
    Drama C049B CRN # 73142
    November 8th 12:00 – 4:20pm Room: Lecture Center

This workshop will focus on the various types of auditions and the auditioning process itself. This workshop will assist students in developing self-presentation and interview skills. Students will learn about audition etiquette and techniques and will practice those techniques in class.

  • Auditioning II
    Drama C049C CRN # 73143
    November 15th 12:00 – 4:20pm Room: Lecture Center.

Students will practice their audition and interview skills in a class showcase for a professional director. The Guest Director will offer students individual critique to enhance their audition and interview skills. Students will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the Guest Director and to engage in a question and answer session. This workshop will feature San Francisco-based director, Alice Shikina. Shikina recently finished directing Being on the Outside at the Jon Sims Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Some of her other directing credits include Arial Dorfman's Death and the Maiden (in Hawaii); The Dumb Waiter, Haiku, and Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends (in the Czech Republic); and Spider on the Radio for the 2003 BOA Festival in San Francisco.

Students may enroll for the workshops separately for free and for zero credit. To register separately, students should sign up for Drama 049 for the October 4th workshop, Drama 049A for the October 18th workshop, Drama 049B for the November 8th workshop, and Drama 049C for the November 15th workshop.
