  22. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to

    1. Articulate a beginner’s level French vocabulary of approximately 750 words.
    2. Identify the conjugation of verbs in the present tense, including irregulars, and at least one other tense such as the passé composé.
    3. Apply how the basic parts of speech function in French such as nouns, articles, adjectives, and the concepts of gender and number agreement.
    4. Interpret and produce short passages in French.
    5. Describe the history, culture and civilization of the French-speaking world at a beginner's level.

    1. Basic vocabulary, classroom commands, numbers, telling time.
    2. Exchanging personal information, greetings.
    2. Early grammatical structures such as articles and nouns.
    3. The concept of masculine and feminine nouns and agreement.
    4. Agreement of adjectives with nouns and articles.

    1. Simple verb structure; conjugating the present tense
    2. Irregular present tense verbs    
    3. Prepositions, demonstratives, idiomatic expressions
    C. Other verb tenses and more advanced concepts (A, B)

Speaking and listening comprehension, student response drills using CDs with a variety of native-speakers and oral or written replies by the student with tape confirmation. Writing exercises stressing the grammatical structures and vocabulary of the section being covered.
