CC Alert

About CC Alert

CC Alert As part of ongoing efforts to improve communication in case of an emergency, Cerro Coso has implemented an emergency alert system. Cerro Coso maintains an emergency management program to protect lives, property, and to continue necessary critical functions.  Cerro Coso shall notify affected members of the Cerro Coso community of an emergency or urgent situation as rapidly as possible. Cerro Coso has implemented an emergency notification system to expand and enhance its emergency notification methods.  The emergency notification system will deliver vital information to the students, faculty and staff of Cerro Coso as quickly as possible in the event of emergency or alert situation.  This system has been established to enhance the safety of all of our students and staff, as well as to provide direction in an emergency and to minimize misinformation.

During an emergency, the emergency notification system will alert and provide pertinent information and instructions to students, faculty and staff via voice, e-mail and text messages to the phone numbers and e-mail addresses on file.  The system uses CONNECT-Ed, which is a web-based mass notification system that sends emergency messages instantly and simultaneously to telephones, mobile phones, wireless devices and email addresses uploaded into the CONNECT-Ed system by KCCD.

How It Works

In the event of an emergency that threatens the lives and/or property of the campus community, the following will be sent as quickly as the situation allows:

  • A voice message will be sent to the phone numbers we have on record.
  • An e-mail message will be sent to your college and/or e-mail address you have provided.
  • A text message will be sent to the mobile phone number you provided.

Additional information and updates will be distributed through the Cerro Coso website, e-mail and phone systems.

Other than an occasional test of the system, CC Alert will be used only to contact you in case of a very serious incident or situation, a campus or site closing, or some other event that requires rapid, wide-scale notification to the community. Examples of such events would be a campus shooting, bomb threat, hazardous materials spills, flood, earthquake, or fire.

Information about OPTING Out of Text Message Alerts

Although you can chose to Opt Out of receiving Alert messages, we strongly encourage you not to Opt Out.  In an emergency situation, the ALERT system will attempt to contact you with important information via all the available communication methods including voice messages to the phone numbers you have provided, email and text messaging.  Depending on where you are at and what you are doing at the time the messages are sent, a Text message could be the best communication mode to alert you of the emergency condition.  For further information about Text Message Alerts, please refer to the Alert System FAQ.
